One with the Flow
Fine art giclée print on 310msg cotton rag paper with a matt finish
She bleeds, she feels, she provides. This painting is about allowing space for the full spectrum of being, and therefore allowing life to flourish within and around us.
Tears, menstrual blood, and breastmilk represent some of the greatest powers of womanhood. Our deep emotions hold great wisdom and healing, our menstrual blood is a sign of our ability to create life, and our breastmilk is the essential nourishment and nurturing for humankind. Yet so often they are seen in a negative light or hidden from sight. I’m striving to fully own my humanity, and especially those aspects of it that we’ve been trained to cover up. Without allowing loving space for all aspects of ourselves, we have little power.
Becoming a mother has been an incredibly valuable lesson in allowing space for myself to feel and process my emotions. Its not always easy to make space for myself, yet I find it essential for the wellbeing of me and all those in my life. Some deeper emotions are only uncovered when I sit still for long enough and give them the space to be seen. We must allow our tears to fall, give our anger a voice, let our deepest insecurities see the light, and allow our hearts to break open.
When we embrace the whole spectrum of our being, we effortlessly give life - to ourselves and those around. This is represented in my painting by the fish, dragonfly women, and flowers growing from the blood, which provide pollen for the bees. The ebb and flow cycles of nature are restored in all their magical glory!
